Baby Shower Cake

This is the first cake I have ever made for a baby shower and I have to say, it was a lot of fun making all of the fondant decorations.

I was asked if i could make a cake for a baby shower which happened to be for my Spanish teacher. Since she was going to have a boy, I decided to keep the color scheme of this cake fairly simple and used white, blue, and brown colors.

This cake was a 9 inch two layered blue velvet cake filled with cream cheese frosting that was covered with white fondant. A blue velvet cake is similar to a red velvet cake but instead of using the red food coloring, you use a blue food coloring. For recipes on both my cream cheese frosting and red velvet cake check out my Recipes page.

Around the sides of the cake, I put blue and brown polka dots while on the top of the cake I placed a bunch of little fondant baby items that were laid on top of a blue fondant baby blanket. I also spelled out “It’s a boy” on top.

My favorite part of making the cake was definitely the fondant objects. I made a baby blanket, ABC blocks, a milk bottle, a pacifier, a baby rattle, and of course an over sized brown teddy bear with a little blue bow.

I’m sure that you can make this exact cake for a girl as well with different colors like pink or yellow, or even green.

I really loved baking this cake and I hope that Mrs. Iglesias liked it too!
