My Spring Break Trip! {A Taste Of My Life}

Last week I had no school! Finally a break from classes, finals, stress, and most of all waking up at 6 in the morning everyday.

Yup! I had Spring Break!

My family wanted to go somewhere for vacation during break instead of just being at home all day (which, to be honest, I was completely fine with), so my parents debated where to go.

At the last minute, we decided to go to Reno, Nevada and Lake Tahoe. Also, we decided to have a couple of my young family friends to tag along with us. 🙂

Us, the night before we left :).

Our plan was to stay at a hotel in Reno for two nights and….figure out what we would do once we got there. I know, a pretty solid plan ;).

On Monday, we left at around noon in our new van and it took us about four hours to get to Reno.

On our way there, we stopped at an In-N-Out joint for lunch :).

If you didn’t know, California is in a pretty bad drought, so I was gladly surprised to see snow on our way to Reno.

Although we didn’t really have a plan on what we do when we were there, we did actually book our hotel in advance (meaning the day before).

We booked the beautiful Peppermill Hotel. We had been there once last year, so we knew how it looked like and where everything was in the hotel.

My parents had booked two hotel rooms, one for me and the other kids, and one for them. Both of the rooms were connected with a door, so we could go to each other’s room easily.

The same night, we decided to go to Circus Circus which is a hotel and casino. We went there because they have something called the Midway. The Midway is basically like an indoor carnival. There are a bunch of carnival themed games and redemption games.

So it’s basically a place where kids and adults go crazy and win stuffed animals :).

And that’s exactly what happened.

We played tons of games and won tons of stuffed animals.

My favorite, was a stuffed giraffe I won.

I named him Georgie the Giraffe 🙂 (warning: I’m pretty sure I tried to put him in every picture I took for the rest of the trip)

After we were completely exhausted and our arms couldn’t hold anymore stuffed animals, we headed back to our hotel. We decided to order room service pizza and then we all fell asleep.

The next morning we got up and got ready to go eat breakfast at a cafe on the first floor.

…..But not before watching an episode or two of Spongebob.

To get to the cafe, we needed to pass through the casino inside the hotel.

We went to Cafe Milano which my family had gone to when we came to the hotel last year.

They have really good giant cinnamon rolls.

And because I’m such a child, I colored the kid’s coloring page the waiter gave us :).

There was also a word search on the page that all of us (including my parents) had competed against to see who would complete it first.

And I don’t want to brag or anything, but…..

I WON. Yup, this is a word search champion you’re looking at.

After breakfast and an intense word search challenge, we decided to drive up to Lake Tahoe to see if there were any snow parks we could go to cause apparently it was snowing there.

I was happy to see some snow on the way there, even if there wasn’t all that much.

Once we got there, we decided to stop at Starbucks and have some delicious hot chocolate.

After that, we roamed around in our van, got lost a couple of times, and some how ended up in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately, none of the snow parks were open as there was not enough snow, so we started to head back to Reno.

On our way back, it started to snow really bad and soon enough, the whole road was white with snow. We could barely see what was in front of us. It was sort of a scary moment considering that we didn’t have any chains for our car.

Instead of worrying about if we were going to make it out of the blizzard, I put on Harry Potter (obviously) on our little van TV.

Once we were back in Nevada and the snow was all gone, we made a stop at an old but historic chocolate factory. We have been there a couple of times before, but my two little friends have never been there, so we decided to stop there.

Also, there’s a gigantic man there….

The inside is cute and has even cuter candies and chocolate.

There were even delicious free samples of different kinds of brittle and fudge.

Look at this chocolate owl I found 🙂

After we came back to the hotel,

we decided to go swimming in the gorgeous hotel pools. In 40 degree weather.

Well let’s just say swimming wasn’t the best idea. Not only was it freezing cold, but it was windy.

Thankfully we weren’t the only people with the same dumb idea.

There were other people shivering with us in the hot tub too. We lasted about 10 minutes, before running back up to our heated hotel room.

I’m pretty sure I have a really bad cold now.

Anyways, after shivering to death, we decided to all take hot showers before going out for dinner.

And because we are such nerds, after dinner, we all came back to our room to play a very intense game of scrabble. And let me tell you, it was very competitive.  At the end, my mom who had teamed up with one of the boys, won by just a few points.

The next day, we were leaving the hotel after breakfast. So we all ate at Cafe Milano again where I had a light and delicious yogurt and granola parfait with fresh fruit.

Before we started to head back home, we wanted to do a couple more things.

I had found this indoor go kart racing place in Reno and none of us had ever been go kart racing so that’s where we went.

FullSizeRender-82 FullSizeRender-76

The place was SO cool and it was very exciting.

FullSizeRender-78 FullSizeRender-79FullSizeRender-77

My mom didn’t want to race so she was our designated camera person. I was old enough AND tall enough (for once) to race with the adult group and my brother and friends raced with the youth group.

Since I was with the adults, I was against my dad, and when I’m against my dad, I get really competitive.

In our group of racers, there were a lot of experienced racers and I was the youngest one there so it was very nerve wracking. As soon as pushed the pedal, I was experiencing the most thrilling and scary thing ever.

It was so much fun, and my only goal was to beat my dad and that’s exactly what I did :).

After our race, the youth race began and it was so awesome to see my brother and friends racing against each other.

My brother being only 7 years old and probably the youngest, kept on bumping into walls and people, and it was pretty funny and adorable.

Afterwords, my dad drove us up to this very old city called Virginia City. It basically looked like the set of a wild western themed movie.

There were also free samples of delicious homemade kettle corn!

FullSizeRender-19 FullSizeRender-20

We roamed around, took a bunch of pictures, and ate lunch there before driving back home. They have some pretty interesting stuff in their gift shops….

This was a pretty crazy last minute trip, but nevertheless, it’s filled with memories, adventures, and tons of inside jokes!

This was an adventure that I will surely never forget, and I will probably have other adventures coming up, so stay tuned for more tastes of my life!

Thanks for reading! 😉
