Looking for a somewhat healthier, but equally delicious recipe for donuts? Well you came to the right place.
I’m about to show you how to make cake donuts!
And not just any donut. Nope, I’m going to show you how to make cinnamon and sugar coated donuts.
Did I mention that they’re mini?
These heavenly donuts are even more delicious with this delectable dark chocolate dipping sauce that I easily made.
As you might have gotten from the title, these are cake donuts, meaning that these are baked and have a more cake like texture.
I’ll admit, these are not your traditional fried donuts, but nevertheless these are still definitely worth trying. In fact, I had brought 65 of these to a class potluck and they were gone within a half an hour. They were that good.
The secret to getting perfect little donuts?
Well first you need one of these:
Yup, to get them perfectly sized, you need a mini donut pan. The one that I have is by Wilton and I got it from my local cake supply store.
For the batter, you just need a normal white or vanilla cake or cupcake batter. I have plenty of recipes under Cakes/Cupcakes page, but you can use your favorite recipe. I used my go to vanilla cake recipe.
For the topping, I mixed ground cinnamon and white sugar together. After the donuts had baked and cooled, I slightly dipped them into melted butter and then rolled them into the cinnamon sugar mixture. And that’s basically it.
Oh, and there’s also a dark chocolate dipping sauce for those who want to take these donuts to another level. The sauce is almost like a ganache, but a much thinner consistency.
I dare you to give them a try. 🙂

Chocolate Dipping Sauce
3 oz. of chopped dark chocolate
1/4 – 1/3 cup of milk (depending on how thick you want it to be)
1 tsp. of pure vanilla extract
1 tbs. of unsalted butter
1. Place a heat proof bowl over a pot of simmering water. Make sure the bowl isn’t touching the water. This creates your double boiler.
2. Place your chocolate, butter, and milk into the bowl and stir until chocolate is completely melted. Stir until smooth.
3. Stir in vanilla and let cool completely before using.
