Hi there! My name is Sofia and I’m the Baking Owl. Welcome to my food blog.
I’m a 17 year old girl who has a passion for baking and went through an owl phase at the age of eleven, which is how the birth of The Baking Owl came to be. I’ve been baking since I was six and I started to write a weekly blog when I was eleven and needed some kind of outlet to share my ideas, recipes, and what I baked during the week. I make everything from espresso marshmallows to chocolate strawberry crepes, but cakes have always had a special place in my heart.
When I’m not baking at home, I’m usually baking at the local bakery I work in, and when I’m not baking at all, you can find me reading, attempting to teach myself an instrument, listening to obscure indie music, or watching Parks and Rec on Netflix for the 87th time. Also school stuff.
Here you will find original recipes, recipes I’ve found in old cookbooks and other food blogs, and passed down family recipes. I do a lot of decorated cakes, so I have several posts on my cake decorating processes and tips & tricks that I’ve discovered through my journey of baking. Everything I’ve baked has gone through some of the hardest and honest taste testers I’ve found which consists of my mother and my little brother (my dad tends to be a little kinder towards what I make, so I can’t fully trust his opinion), so only the best of what’s come out of my kitchen has been published. I also share my attempts at vegan, gluten free, and sugar free recipes as my dad is a health and nutrition nerd with a strict diet (ironic, right?).
I feel the need to put up a little disclaimer because as I mentioned before, I started this website when I was eleven years old and as all middle schoolers were, I was totally weird and embarrassing. Despite this, I’ve kept (most) of my posts from the Very Beginning (yikes) to my parents’ insistence (apparently it’s so I can look back and see how far I’ve come, but let’s be real, no one wants to look back at who they were in middle school), so just beware of some middle-school-sofia quality writing haha. Also, if you want to just skip all of the rambling and detail I go into with my desserts, check out the gallery for pictures of everything I’ve made. Furthermore, my recipes can be found here, and step-by-step tutorials can be found here.
Hope you all find something you like!
Have a sweet day full of baking,
