HALLOWEEN Treats {& Video Tutorial}

Last Friday was one of my favorite holidays- It was HALLOWEEN! I have always loved Halloween since I was a toddler. I love the costumes and the candy, but most of all the Halloween baking!

There are so many things that I would’ve made this year, but I settled on a couple of very simple and tasty treats that were really fun to make.

The first treat I made were these very cute mini candy corn themed cupcakes. These were SO easy to make. I basically took some vanilla cake batter and dyed half of the batter orange and the other half yellow with food coloring. Then I put a scoop of yellow cake batter in the cupcake liner and then on top, a scoop of orange cake batter. I let the cupcakes bake like usual and then piped on some white vanilla buttercream on top to complete the candy corn effect.

Rice Krispy Treat Easter Eggs

This week for Easter, I made rice krispy treats. I couldn’t bake anything since I didn’t had an oven at that time (no oven situation explained in last post), so I made rice krispy treats in the shape of Easter eggs! But, this time I made these with a little help from my little brother and his friend.

I also decided to shoot a little tutorial on how to make these delicious treats as well! For a written recipe on how to make rice krispy treats, look below or in the recipes page.

These easy treats were decorated with melted chocolate and sprinkles!

Game Wheel Cake

A couple of weeks ago I made a cake for a surprise birthday party for my dad’s friend’s 40th birthday party! This cake was a really fun cake to make and the end result got many smiles at the party. I was asked to make the cake that looked like a game wheel with a spinner, so after some research, I finalized my cake design.

This cake took me awhile to make and I faced some challenges with fondant. I decided to go with a white and blue color theme with a bit of brown.

I figured out how to get the spinner to really spin and everyone was spinning it to see what they got! The wheel and border decorations were all made with fondant.

I also dusted the top of the cake with lots of silver dust (maybe a little too much :/)

This cake was a 4 layer red velvet cake with a cream cheese icing for the filling. All the adults and the kids at the party really liked how the cake looked and tasted and I got lots of encouraging comments and compliments.

I also have YouTube tutorials on how to make red velvet cake and cream cheese icing up on my tutorials page!

Chocolate Peppermint Whoopie Pies

Hi everybody!Last weekend I made something I have wanted to make for a long time – chocolate peppermint whoopie pies! I also decided to make these whoopie pies because pi day was a couple of weeks ago as well!

IMG_2600[2]

I also made a YouTube tutorial on how to make these treats, so please check that out below. And I would really appreciate it if you subscribe to my channel- TheBakingOwl

The recipe can be found on my recipes page or on this link. Also, for the mint filling in the center, all I did was add 1/4 tsp. of pure peppermint extract to a batch of plain buttercream. I got the mint green color by adding a bit of green gel paste food coloring to frosting.

These whoopie pies were really delicious and I gave a few of them to my neighbors, and they said that they loved them! The filling was piped on with a medium sized star tip.

I hope you guys like these whoopie pies! Please follow my blog if you enjoy reading posts like this!

Funfetti Cake (YouTube Tutorial)

Hi everyone! As I mentioned in my 1 year anniversary post, I would start making tutorials on YouTube and I have just made my first video on how to make a funfetti cake! This was my very first video so I was kind of nervous but I think it turned out alright. This cake that I made was really fun to make and was so colorful! The cake itself was really tasty and soft and would taste great with many different kinds of frostings and fillings. I used a plain vanilla buttercream for the filling and the crumb coat. The cake recipe I used was from The Cake Bible. Please check out the video!

Please follow, like , comment, and subscribe to my new YouTube channel if  you enjoy reading The Baking Owl! Thanks!
