Molten Lava Cakes (Gluten & Refined Sugar Free) {Picture Tutorial}

Valentine’s Day is here and you can’t spend the day without making these wonderfully chocolatey lava cakes.

Molten lava cakes have been a favorite dessert of mine ever since I was little. I clearly remember the first time I ate one; I was on vacation in Whistler (a beautiful town in British Colombia), with my family and the four of us had to share one little lava cake. I remember the hot chocolate oozing out with vanilla ice cream melting into the warm cake, my nine year old self wondering how in the world did they get the center of the cake all melty and yummy.

Valentines Day Blondies

Happy Valentines Day everyone! For V-day this year, I wanted to do a tutorial on how to bake something new -blondies! For those who don’t know, blondies are basically vanilla or white chocolate brownies. I found this really easy recipe on this blog and decided to add a few things to make them valentines day themed. I mixed in red and pink sprinkles and cut them into hearts. This was also my 5th YouTube video tutorial so please subscribe to my YouTube channel- TheBakingOwl!

Please follow, like, and comment if you enjoy reading The Baking Owl! Thank you! 🙂

Wilton Cake Decorating Class (Course 1)

This month I took my very first cake decorating class! It was the Wilton’s Cake Decorating class, Course 1 at Michaels. It was a 4 week course and my mom and I had to go to the class every Friday.The course started on February 1st and ended yesterday on Feb. 22nd. It was a lot of work as we had to bake something every week. But it was worth it. I learned a lot of information  that I didn’t know about baking.

First Class:

For the first class we had to bake (Or buy) 6  cookies at home and bring it to the class. I baked my favorite butter cookies. We were taught how to frost the cookies with the star tip. (Sorry, I don’t have any pics for this class.)

Second Class:

The next class we had to bake 2 cakes at home and bring it to class for a layer cake. I  made this cake for the 2nd class. We learned how to pipe borders and how to use different tips. My cake was vanilla and my mom’s was chocolate cake.

Third Class:

For the third class we had to bake 6 cupcakes. I made the same valentine’s day cupcakes that were in the last post. We learned how to make drop flowers, rosettes, shaggy mums, and pompom flowers.

Fourth Class:

For the final class we were supposed to bring either a 1 or 2 layer cake already iced. We got cool certifactes 🙂 even though they spelled my last name wrong :(. This is the final cake we made for the last week. My cake was vanilla again and my mom’s was chocolate. We learned how to write and how to pipe really pretty roses.

I thought this was a really good experience even though they spelled my last name with an E instead of an S. :/

Happy Valentine’s Day!

This year for valentine’s day I made pink vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting and a pink flower made of frosting on top. I used wilton’s gel food coloring to make my cupcakes pink. I could only take pictures of the cupcakes before they were frosted because I didn’t make that many so they were already eaten by everyone (including me) before I had the chance to take anymore pics.
